Aesthetic-poetic and Linguistic Translation

Aesthetic-poetic translation: it refers to translation in which the translator takes into account the affect, emotion, and feeling of an original version, the aesthetic form used by the original author, as well as any information in the message. Example: the translation of sonnet, rhyme, heroic couplet, dramatic dialogue, and novel.

From fairest creatures we desire increase, That thereby beauty’s rose might never die, But as the riper should by time decease His tender heir might bear his memory. But thou, contracted to thine own bright eyes, Feed’st thy light’s flame with self-substantial fuel, Making a famine where abundance lies, Thyself thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel. Thou that art now the world’s fresh ornament And only herald to the gaudy spring, Within thine own bud buriest thy content, And, tender churl, mak’st waste in niggarding. Pity the world, or else this glutton be,   To eat the world’s due, by the grave and thee.

We want the most beautiful people to have children, so their beauty will be preserved forever—when the parent dies, the child he leaves behind will remind us of his beauty. But you, in love with your own pretty eyes, are letting your beauty burn itself out. You’re starving the world of your beauty rather than spreading the wealth around. You’re acting like your own worst enemy! Right now you’re the best-looking thing in the world, the only person as beautiful as springtime. But your beauty is like a new bud, and you’re letting it die before it can develop and bring you true happiness. You’re a young man, but you act like an old miser—you’re wasting your beauty by hoarding it and keeping it to yourself! Take pity on the rest of us, or this is how you’ll be remembered: as the greedy pig who hogged his own beauty and took it with him to the grave.

Translation : Kita berharap agar orang yang sempurna memiliki keturunan, sehingga kebaikannya akan menurun-ketika orang tuanya telah tiada maka melalui keturunannya kita dapat selalu mengenang kebaikan itu. Namun akibat kecintaan terhadap dirimu sendiri, menutupi segala kebaikan yang ada di dalamnya. Kamu mendambakan semua orang agar mengagumimu daripada melakukan kebaikan. Pribadimu merupakan musuh terbesarmu! Sekarang mungkin kamu merupakan hal terindah yang ada dibumi sehingga menyerupai musim semi. Namun kebaikanmu masih merupakan suatu tunas, yang kamu biarkan mati bahkan sebelum dapat bertumbuh dan membawamu pada kebahagiaan yang sejati. Kamu merupakan seorang pemuda yang bertingkah bak orang tua kikir- kamu sia-siakan kebaikanmu dengan menimbun dan menyimpannya untuk diri sendiri. Sungguh malang bagi kita, inilah bagaimana kamu akan dikenang : sebagai babi rakus yang melahap kebaikannya sendiri hingga membawanya sampai ke liang kubur.

A heroic couplet is a traditional form for English poetry, commonly used in epic and narrative poetry; it refers to poems constructed from a sequence of rhyming pairs of lines iniambic pentameter.

2.     The Translation of a heroic couplet

And then black night. That blackness was sublime.

I felt distributed through space and time:

One foot upon a mountaintop. One hand

Under the pebbles of a panting strand,

One ear in Italy, one eye in Spain,

In caves, my blood, and in the stars, my brain.

(Canto One. 147-153)

Translation :

Malam yang kelam. Kegelapan yang maha mulia.

Aku merasa terhanyut melalui ruang dan waktu:

Satu kaki berada di puncak gunung. Satu tangan

Dibawah bebatuan pantai yang berdebur,

Satu telinga di Italia, satu mata di Spanyol,

Dalam gua-gua, darahku, dan di bintang-bintang, pikiranku.

Linguistic translation: is concerned with equivalent meanings of the constituent morphemes of the SL and grammatical form. Example: language in a computer program and translation machine.

Example :

1. Bahasa Mesin, yaitu memberikan perintah kepada komputer dengan memakai kode bahasa biner, contohnya 01100101100110.
2. Bahasa Tingkat Rendah, atau dikenal dengan istilah bahasa rakitan (bah.Inggris Assembly), yaitu memberikan perintah kepada komputer dengan memakai kode-kode singkat (kodemnemonic), contohnya MOV, SUB, CMP, JMP, JGE, JL, LOOP, dsb.
3. Bahasa Tingkat Menengah, yaitu bahasa komputer yang memakai campuran instruksi dalam kata-kata bahasa manusia (lihat contoh Bahasa Tingkat Tinggi di bawah) dan instruksi yang bersifat simbolik, contohnya {, }, ?, <<, >>, &&, ||, dsb.
4. Bahasa Tingkat Tinggi, yaitu bahasa komputer yang memakai instruksi berasal dari unsur kata-kata bahasa manusia, contohnya begin, end, if, for, while, and, or, dsb.
